This year, several unique duets paired up for some toned down numbers. Gwen Stefani performed “My Heart is Open??? with heartthrob Adam Levine, while Sam Smith and Mary J Blige sang “Stay with Me,??? Smith’s Grammy winning Record of the Year. The 57th annual Grammy Awards were certainly not lacking in star power.
Hosted by LL Cool J, the Grammys delivered performances from throwback favorites, like Madonna and Paul McCartney, combined with plenty from hot new celebrities, such as Sam Smith and Rita Ora. In fact, some would argue that the tried and true artists put on a better show, with Annie Lennox giving a spectacular performance of “Take Me to Church.???
Big winners of the night included Beck, taking Best Album with “Morning Phase,??? and Pharrell Williams whose “Happy??? was voted Best Solo Performance. Sam Smith took the Grammy Awards by storm, taking home awards for Best Pop Vocal Album, Best New Artist, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year. Some were surprised to see that Katy Perry and Taylor Swift both went home empty handed, but we are likely to see them return next year.
The Grammy Awards have been recognizing artists based on a peer voting system for more than half a century.
