We know many of our customers are hooked on awards shows! “The Academy??? has been handing out the coveted Oscars for 87 years. The 2015 awards continued to amaze audiences with the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, with a few surprises thrown in for good measure.

In a series of Oscar night surprises, the widely acclaimed “Boyhood??? failed to claim many of the awards it was nominated for. Snubbed for Best Picture and several others, the story twelve years in the making managed only a Best Supporting Actress award for Patricia Arquette. This was Arquette’s first nomination, so taking home the award was especially sweet for her.

“Birdman or (the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)??? was the shocking big winner of the night, overtaking impressive films such as “American Sniper??? and “Imitation Game??? to take home the award for Best Picture. “American Sniper??? was the largest grossing film nominated and a strongly held favorite among many, but it managed to be awarded only for Best Sound Editing, leaving Best Leading Actor to “The Theory of Everything??? star Eddie Redmayne. Also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, “American Sniper??? lost this award to Benedict Cumberbatch’s “The Imitation Game.???

What happened to “Selma???? This expertly done civil rights film was nominated for Best Picture, and lost but failed to gain nominations for as many other awards as some felt was its due. Many felt that Selma was overshadowed by continuing fame of 2014’s “Twelve Years a Slave.??? One might wonder, how does a Best Picture nomination not have any Best Director or Best Actor nominations? Curious.

In animated categories, “The Lego Movie??? was trumped in everything other than Best Original Song by a sequel, “How to Train your Dragon 2.??? The good news is that “Everything is Awesome??? was a big hit at the Academy Awards and at the Grammys, where it was performed by Tegan and Sara along with The Lonely Island.

This year’s Oscars prove that even when we think we know who all the winners will be, the Academy Awards puts on an amazing show that is well worth watching. Did you watch any of the winning films in your home theatre? Or have an Oscars party? We’d love to hear about it!
